Description
This set allows the modeller to convert the 1/72 scale Xtrakit Hawker Hunter T.Mk.7 (kit no. XK72013) into the unique T.Mk.12 XE531 used for TSR.2 HUD and FX.126 camera trials. As such it was fitted with a bulge to the upper nose, and camera port immediately forward of the nose wheel bay. This airframe continued in service with the RAE (without FX.126 modifications fitted) until lost in an accident in 1982. XE531 was a conversion of an F.6 to a twin seat airframe. Unlike RAF T.7 two seaters it was powered by an Avon Mk.203 engine and carried no armament. The T.12 was also considered as a possible lead-in trainer for TSR.2, giving this set some further what-if potential.
Parts included are the modified nose section with bulged top and camera panel under nose, Martin Baker Mk.4 seats, correctly sized main wheels and nose leg, and outer wing pylons. Decals not included, markings for XE531 can be found on the Testing Colours decal sheet available separately.
