Product Description
The EE Lightning Ground Attack project conversion is based on a 1960 brochure proposal to convert surplus Lightning F.1, 1A and 2 airframes to F.3A (visually F.6) standard with Ground Attack capability, by means of a new ventral weapon pack. The brochure outlines in detail the necessary changes to adapt the basic airframe to its new role within a reasonable budget.

Changes include fitting of a 600 gallon ventral tank (similar to that carried on the F.2A/6 but flatter in outline), with an alternative armament pack interchangeable in the centre section of the ventral tank mounted on new stub wings, Lightning F.6 external ducts, fitting of cambered wing leading edge and a squared off vertical fin (as on F.2A/6), provision for inflight refuelling, but not for carriage of over-wing drop tanks. Lastly removal of gun armament, leaving the bays and blast tubes available for additional avionics and cable ducts.

This resin conversion set is designed for use with the Airfix Lightning F.2A or F.6 base kits. Includes 1000lb N.1 supersonic bombs, other proposed weapons loads included Zuni rockets or AS.30 missiles (not included).
