This set is designed for use with the 1967 Hasegawa BAC Lightning F.6 kit, to convert it to the small fuel tank F.3, with additional bonus F.1/2 style pointed tail fin also included. Although the Hasegawa kit (also marketed by Frog, and subsequently very closely copied and sold under various Eastern European brands) is obsolete compared to the more recent Airfix F.6 offering, many modellers will have these kits in their stash, and indeed the kit is still in production. Using this conversion with the Hasegawa kit will not make you the best Lightning around, but it should be an enjoyable build allowing you to use up some up your loft insulation.

Parts included are a new lower fuselage section, separate small belly tank (rarely the Lightning flew without it), and an optional F.1/2 pointed tail fin. If not fitting the belly tank, the two circular location posts will need to be sanded flat. If making any version other than an F.3 you will need to shorten the cable duct on each side of the resin lower fuselage section (as the duct is under sized on the Hasegawa kit). Not included in the set is the straight wing leading edge, this is left up to the modeller to modify. This should not be too difficult as the leading edge in solid while lacking the F.6 double camber and can be reprofiled with reference to suitable scale plans (not included). As an alternative if you have a spare 1960s Airfix Lightning F.1A (or the 1980s F.3 retool) in your stash you can use the wings from this kit to save you some surgery whilst clearing more space in your loft for new kits.
